Slapp Chat at the Counter with... Pat McGrath Makeup Artist - Peter Fridrich
The beauty counter is where most makeup artists get their experience. It's where they learn how to practice on different faces from all walks of life - and it's also where most of us have our first makeup experience. We all remember the first time we visited the department store to find our foundation match, or blag samples.
Where are you from?
I’m originally from Czech Republic, but live in London
What do you do?
I’m a makeup artist: part time in the store and then freelancing
What’s your day to day like?
I work four days a week in the store and the rest I do freelance such as productions, photo shoots, fashion shows, private clients and bridal makeup.
What advice would you give to other girls and guys looking to get into makeup artistry?
Be brave. Trust yourself and keep practising
What has been your greatest achievement in your career so far?
Probably working with some celebrities. It’s quite difficult to say because I’ve been working as a makeup artist, back in my country, in Germany, in the UK: so in every country I’ve met someone who’s like wow to me.
What are your experiences of diversity in the industry?
I think the best diversity you can see is here on the shop floor. You have loads of different cultures coming in and they are the diversity. They want to try different styles and you learn more and more about different people.
What inspires you?
Daily life. Everything around me, people
If you could Slapp on one beauty product, what would it be?
Loads of women say mascara, but I would say highlighter
What’s your favourite product(s) from the Pat McGrath?
Highlighter. The highlighter stick
Life to me.
