Name:
Hanna Hillier
Where are you from?
London, England ️
What do you do?
Beauty and fashion photographer
What is your typical day like?
I wake up at 6am, check emails, and work until 1am then pass out again haha! I like to go to the gym, swim and go out for dinner whenever I have time.
How did you get started in photography?
I did it at school- then went to London College of Fashion and studied Fashion Styling and Photography. I dropped out after 1 year and worked at Next Model Management in London. Then I went freelance!
What has been your greatest achievement in your career so far?
I can’t even begin to say one. But I’d say being able to wake up every day and do what I love is the best!
What has been your favourite photoshoot to work on?
One time my client flew me out to Mauritius to shoot photos for her birthday. It was just her, her sister and I. She rented a yacht and we just chilled on the yacht for a whole day. Just us 3 plus the 2 boat guys. No phone signal. We had champagne and wings. It was the best day of my life.
How do you stay healthy body and mind?
I like to not compare myself to others. I never speak negatively about anybody I personally know. I focus on the positive and don't like to associate with anybody who is toxic or bad energy. We all have good and bad days, but I like to keep my circle small and chill. That said, I love meeting new people, and have learned to stay quiet on set, and listen and learn from other people. Everybody has a story to tell, and I love to learn about other people's perspectives and experiences. I believe we should always be learning, challenging ourselves, and growing.
What inspires you?
I love colours, textures, playing with light, shooting people’s faces.
Who is your beauty muse?
I think everyone is so beautiful, I couldn't possibly say one person. Probably my boyfriend.
What advice would you give to other girls and guys looking to get into creative industries?
Throw yourself into the deep end every single time. I have been throwing myself in the deep end since I started and I have grown so much from it, now I feel so invincible. Take smart, educated risks. Throw your ego out the window on day 1. It won't help you get anywhere and will always cause you problems.
What are your experiences of diversity in the industry?
When I first started about 10 years ago it was so, so awful. It's much better now... but still has a LONG way to go. I am excited for where we will be in 10 years’ time, hopefully the industry will be much more diverse across the board, with it coming from a REAL, GENUINE place, not a box-ticking, fake place.
Beauty is…
Beauty is strength, resilience, and intelligence; breaking the 'rules' to make fashion and beauty more progressive.
If you could only Slapp on one beauty product, what would it be?
ONLY ONE?? Sunscreen or Mascara!
