3 Home Comforts To Brighten Up Your Day….

Hi guys,
Jamila here from Slapp. I’m sitting on the sofa at home, in what is almost the end of week 6 of lockdown.
It definitely has been an emotional rollercoaster, with a lot of lazy days, a lot of late nights on TikTok and a lot of staring at the fridge, wondering when I will go out again.
I’m optimistic that we are now in the last few weeks of lockdown (although I did think that 4 weeks ago!), but whilst we are still at home, I wanted to share some of the things that have brightened up some of my trickier days at home in isolation.
We will be continuing to update the app, but as with this list and everything we post, please don’t feel pressured or inclined to purchase anything. I’m doing my best to reduce my spending in this time of uncertainty, but whenever I’m stressed or anxious I’ll often find myself online at 2am looking for something to buy. So if you’re like me and need a quick pick-me-up, or just want some new things to look at, here are a few of my current favourites.
1. Brother Vellies - Something Special

I’m a huge fan of cool girl shoe brand Brother Vellies and it's super chic founder Aurora James. What I love most about this brand is that all of their materials and labour are sourced sustainably. Aurora puts celebrating local artisans at the centre of her brand and during self-isolation came up with the genius idea to start sending her customers ‘Something Special’. Every 15th of the month Brother Vellies will send subscribers a beautifully crafted ‘something special’.
Previous ‘Something Specials’ have included a handcrafted Oaxacan mug and the seriously cozy ‘cloud’ socks in 14 colours. If you want to get on the list for next month, be sure to sign up before the 15th. I’m super excited to see what I will get. Simple pleasures!

2. Omorovicza - Queen of Hungary Mist

I first peeped this product, watching my wonderful friend Jamie’s #whatsinmyslappbag video for us. If you’ve seen her video you will see she is a skincare whizzkid. Jamie and I first met in my beauty blogger days, when we would spend hours talking about new products, the industry and life. I had been desperately searching for a face mist, to avoid using toner every morning and evening. I’ve found that being home so much, my skin isn’t enjoying over use of products. I had the Mario Badescu in Rosewater, which my skin didn’t love, so I purchased the Green Tea and Cucumber. It was definitely better, but I wasn’t getting the lightweight and luxurious feeling on my skin that I was craving. The Omorovicza mist is not cheap, so I thought I would first test it by purchasing the travel size. I purchased the 30ml travel size for £20, but after using it for a week, I already know I will be buying the full size 100ml; it’s perfect.

3. Notebooks

I’m obsessed with making lists and taking notes. I have notes in my phone and about 5 different notebooks on the go at any time. Five is definitely too many, but I have two main squeezes atm. I usually keep a small notebook for lists, or to remind myself what I want to do the next day and then I have a larger notebook to be creative and let my ideas run free.
Both Paperchase and Liberty have great options depending on your budget. If you’re having a low week, feeling a little lost or feeling inspired, it’s good to just get your thoughts down on paper, so you can look back to see how far you’ve come, or remind yourself what you need to do, in this groundhog day we’re living in.

Let me know what you think of this guys, I can definitely do this every week/month.
Sending love from quarantine!
