Slapp Tests: The Ordinary Foundation, Primer & More
Here at Slapp, we can't get enough of extraordinary beauty brand The Ordinary. Forming part of the purse-friendly powerhouse that is Deciem, The Ordinary have been making waves in the beauty sphere since their arrival back in 2013. You may remember the 25k waitlist mayhem, that ensued upon the launch of their serum and coverage foundations, or the buzz over the fact that Kim K swore by their £5 Retinol Serum. Most recently there’d been a lot of negative buzz about their founder and new owners Estée Lauder, but don’t let the drama put you off. With prices lower than your morning matcha, The Ordinary quite rightly make £100 skincare, look like insanity.
We’ve been matching to their Colours range since it hit shelves, but, as always, we wanted to visit their store - so you don’t have to! (We must add that we are still waiting for the Ordinary to add a 3.2Y and more shades in the rich end of the spectrum!)

We tasked our newest member of the Slapp writing crew, who hasn’t bought a new foundation since the Bobbi stick she bought years ago, to share her thoughts of her visit…

“Finding that perfect foundation match is no easy feat, and with a base of both yellow and pinkish undertones, my expectations were in all honesty, mediocre at best.
Within minutes of stepping into the store, I was promptly met by a friendly and attentive member of staff.
After making sure my Slapp matches matched up with the foundation recommended, I was ready to get analytical.
I was immediately blown away by the silk like consistency of the Serum Foundation, described as a lightweight pigment suspension system for moderate coverage (whatever that means!)
Retailing at a mere £5.70, a little also goes a long way, and when applied on top of the brands High Spreadability primer, my dry and spot-prone skin, felt transformed into a dewy, healthy glow.
Another wonderful surprise was the free gift on purchase, and we're not talking a small sachet of night cream. With my purchase I received a full sized bottle of Squalene. Derived purely from plant extracts, squalene is a certified bio-based product which offers non greasy hydration for both skin and hair and the results are instant. On first application, the suppleness to the skin is unmissable and creates the perfect, almost elastic base for primer and foundation to follow.
When used together this simple trio really are a fantastic investment for any beauty bag.
After a week of regular use, with the squalene or without, but always with the primer, my new foundation has definitely become my ‘can’t leave the house without it’ essential. Whilst the coverage is strong enough to mask the odd blemish here and there, I still feel like my skin can breathe.
I have to say I was truly blown away by this brand I initially knew nothing about. A faction of the price of traditional counter brands, this has definitely inspired me to experiment with drugstore and indie brands more!
